Lyrics

REDWOOD RINGS

words and music by Paula Bliss

Lengthening like the redwood

Reaching out madrone

Balancing the light, the weight, the night,

With days of play

Full of surprise

Of all of us

Aspects all we must

Let fly in the name of spirit body

Everybody dance

Sound lifted

Round rising

Phrase gliding

Through the air

Inspiring

Earth, sky, sound, water, fly

Everywhere

Everybody dance

Redwood rings

Of fairies sing

A chorus round

Encircling

Our dimmest lights

Our softest song

Our sweetest thoughts

The love surrounds

Lengthening like the redwood

Reaching out madrone

SLEEP IS PEACE

words and music by Paula Bliss

Riding on clouds

Of deep sleep breath

We angels travel, we angels travel,

We angels travel

In time and space from our beds

Rolling over changing hemispheres

Rolling over changing centuries

As actor and audience we resolve

And sleep is peace is sleep

The pure face on the pillow

The first face on the pillow

We angels travel, we angels travel,

We angels travel

In time and space from our beds

Rolling over changing hemispheres

Rolling over changing centuries

Rolling over changing hemispheres

Rolling over changing centuries

As actor and audience we resolve

And sleep is peace is sleep….

SWEET MUSIC

poem by Alfred Lord Tennyson music by Paula Bliss

There is sweet music here

That softer falls

Than petals from blown roses on the grass

Or night-dews on still waters between walls

Of shadowy granite, in a gleaming pass;

Music that gentler on the spirit lies,

Than tired eyelids on tired eyes;

Music that brings sweet sleep down from blissful skies.

Surely, surely slumber is more sweet than toil, the shore

Than labor in deep mid-ocean, wind and wave and oar;

O rest ye, brother mariners, we will not wander more.

There is sweet music here

That softer falls

That softer falls…

AMUSE US

words and music by Paula Bliss

Chorus:

Amuse us

Muses

Nine

With stories

Spanning all of time

Poems and songs

To guide us along

The trail to Mount Parnassus

Through the halls on Mount Olympus.”

Muses:

We are summoned

Through beg and call and prayer

Through wistful dreams

While floating on the cradle blue

A stream

Of soft focus

Becoming defined.”

All:

And the muse’s gifts fall as rain

Splash

Ripple

Divine

TURBINE

music by Bob Bliss

TAKE ME BACK

words by Paula Bliss music by Bob and Paula Bliss

forgive

give for the love of us…

back lit

standing in the bedroom doorway

not knowing if you’re inside or out

the field of trust

either of us inside the love of us

take me back

into your heart again

please take me back

into your heart

into your heart again

the field of trust

either of us

inside the love of us

please

take me back

into your heart again

please take me back

take me back

into your heart again

please take me back

into your heart

into your heart again

forgive

give for the love of us

WISH I WISH

words and music by Paula Bliss

These aren’t the stars that I saw from my crib

The patterns are different ever since I slid

From my old world to new

On a river of blue

High above my home

Left my family alone

The smell from my kitchen

Is reaching me here

Mom’s cooking my favorite

Wishing I was there

Her tears add the salt

To my favorite dish

I wish I could taste it

I wish I wish

The birds that fly south, know their way home

The fish swim up stream, to the place that they’ve known

They follow the map that is etched in their hearts

I wish, I wish, we were no longer apart.

I see the plume from my daddy’s cigar

I hear him pacing

How could you have gone so far?”

The cat is crying, rubbing up against his leg

They look at each other and know the unsaid

The birds that fly south, know their way home

The fish swim up stream, to the place they were born

They follow the map that is etched in their hearts

I wish, I wish, we were no longer apart.

WASHING WALTZ

words and music by Paula Bliss

In a light breeze

from earlier days

the clothes on the line

danced in the sun.

The hands of our grandparents

pinning the corners of

shirts, pants, and socks

one by one.

From a basket full of beautiful wash

come dancing clothes that

are tossed and tossed

by a wind so playful

you never know

when pant legs will leap

and sleeves will blow.

The sun, wind, water will always provide

a transformation from wet to dry,

wet to dry…

Simple feels good

It sounds so complicated

But simple is fine

It’s nature’s refinement

Simple feels good

It sounds so complicated

But simple is fine

It’s nature’s sweet refinement

Sweet design

The clouds so full and dark with rain

float over the mountains

over the plains

And drop their gifts one by one

so our clothes can be washed

can be hung

up to dry

Under a clearing blue sky

Clear blue sky…

The sun, wind, water will always provide

a transformation from wet to dry,

wet to dry…

Simple feels right

Simple feels good

We’re taken care of

Let’s take care too

Simple is good

It sounds so complicated

Simple is fine

It’s nature’s sweet refinement

Sweet design

Under a clearing blue sky

Clear blue sky

WINDS OF PALOLO

words and music by Paula Bliss

Winds of Palolo blow

Come air out my head

Help the past go a roll…oh

Fill me with jasmine instead

Fill me with jasmine instead

Pikake filling my head

Clouds rest on mountain tops high

They could hang there all day

And the ironwoods on top are inside

Oh they blow me away

To live here blows me away

Clouds let go and go ocean way

My eyes are feasting on the green

And my toes are dug into this deep red earth

This amazing dirt they helps all this to grow

Winds of Palolo blow

Blow the rains down to me

Ah if I can grow like all this grows

I’ll be the one I know I can be

Stretching out like a monkey pod tree

In the sun, on the earth, by the sea

Now’s the time and place is here

Breathe deeply exhale the fear

I’m so lucky to be breathing here…

All surrounds, comes in and goes

Fills me up and I let it all go…

Winds of Palolo blow

Winds of Palolo blow

Winds of Palolo blow…

REMEMBER

words and music by Paula Bliss

What do I have to remember you by?

The stars in the sky are like the light in your eyes

The warmth of a fire when you’re standing near

The Mississippi’s flooding with all of my tears

I stand by this river

Watching life moving by

Curving and bending ’til it’s out of sight

I trust that all rivers

Run into the same

Big ocean that brings us together again

What do I have to remember you by?

Are we just fireflies a moment in the night?

Can you hear the things I’ve always wanted to say?

Can you still see me with your starry eyes today?

TRAIN TRAIN

words and music by Paula Bliss

Train Train take me

Out of this town

Curving, then straight ahead,

Rising up and down.

Train Train take me

Open my eyes wide

To wonders I’ve never dreamed of

With lavender skies.

Tell Claude the Brakeman

Slack on the job

Let the train keep going

Don’t ever let it stop

No don’t ever let it stop!

Train Train take me

Out of this town

Curving, then straight ahead,

Rising up and down.

When BC takes your ticket

On the C & O

Know you can go anywhere

Anywhere you want to go

Anywhere you want to go!

‘Cuz this train we don’t have to jump

We don’t have to run to get up speed

Everyone here gets a seat

All my friends, all my friends, all my friends and me!

Train Train take me

Out of this town

Curving, then straight ahead,

Rising up and down.

Rising up and down.

Rising up and down.

Train! Train!

DOVES

words and music by Paula Bliss with Bob Bliss

The doves are starting to fill the sky

Their white outlined by blue on high

Each flap of wing sends a rippling ring

Accompanied by coos – this sweet song they sing

…coo, coo…

If it’s imaginable

It’s possible

If you can see it

It can be

The hawks retreat hearing sounds so sweet

The crows, jays hide in the tallest trees

As the blinding white that can only bring

A new insight – a new beginning

If it’s imaginable

It’s possible

If you can see it

It can be

The doves are starting to fill the sky

Their white outlined by blue on high

Each flap of wing sends a rippling ring

Accompanied by coos – this sweet song they sing

…coo, coo…

If it’s imaginable

It’s possible

If you can see it

It can be

If it’s imaginable

It’s possible

If you can see it

It can be

…a land of loving peace
